28/04/25 update: I think it’s worth mentioning that I had to watch this in three sittings. It kept giving me asthma attacks and I don’t even have asthma.

To me, Comrades explored companionship beyond romance and attraction. I personally believe that it’s possible to have more than one soulmate in one lifetime (evident through Maggie Cheung’s character). You can be with all of them or just one of them or even none at all. Or at least maintain an okay relationship—bury the hatchet and stuff. At the end of the day everything boils down to circumstances.
